COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law and Criminal Justice degree is structured to provide a comprehensive legal education while offering specialist knowledge in criminal justice. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of law and justice through modules such as Criminal Law, Private Law, Public Law, Legal Systems and Cultures, and Introduction to Criminal Justice. They also develop practical skills in advocacy, mooting, and legal practice, alongside exploring rights and the relationship between law and society. In the second year, the course deepens students’ understanding with modules such as Criminal Procedure, Criminology and the Law, European Criminal Law, and Rethinking Criminal Justice, while also covering areas like Property Law, Business Law, and Law and Social Justice. Opportunities to build professional skills are provided through project-based learning and practice-focused modules. In the final year, students specialize further with advanced modules including Criminal Evidence, Advanced Criminal Law, Countering Terrorism, and International Criminal Justice on mass atrocity crimes. They also gain hands-on experience through Clinical Legal Practice modules on case management, interviewing, and advising, while exploring pressing issues such as human rights, race and policing, and international law. The course culminates in advanced legal research, preparing graduates for careers in law, criminal justice, and related professions.
