COURSE CURRICULUM

The Quantity Surveying and Construction Commercial Management course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to manage construction projects from inception to completion, with a focus on costs, contracts, procurement, and sustainability. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundational theories and concepts of building design, construction technology, and the built environment, alongside digital construction tools. Learning is applied through real-world projects, site visits, and industry events, providing early exposure to quantity surveying and commercial management practices. Core subjects include building measurement and costing, construction law, environmental services, and site management. In the second year, students progress to more complex construction projects such as high-rise and wide-span buildings, exploring structural and fabric considerations, design procurement, cost estimating, and site management principles. International construction practices and the use of digital technologies are also incorporated, with opportunities for field trips to understand global approaches. In the final year, the focus shifts to project evaluation, whole life costing, supply chain management, and professional standards required for recognition in the industry. Students also engage with sustainable and innovative construction, carbon measurement, and optional international projects. The program balances theoretical knowledge with practical experience, preparing graduates to enter the construction industry as skilled, professionally aware quantity surveyors and commercial managers.
