COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Health BSc provides a comprehensive education in the principles and practice of promoting health, preventing disease, and improving well-being at individual, community, and population levels. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation in the biological and social sciences, studying applications of biological sciences, human nutrition, psychology and sociology of health, and evidence-based public health practice, alongside core modules on environment, health, and sustainable development. Professional development is also embedded to support the transition into higher education and future careers. Year 2 builds on this foundation by exploring applied nutrition, diet in health and disease, global public health priorities, and health economics and policy. Students develop analytical and research skills, including data management and research methods, while also studying contemporary global challenges in biology and human parasitology, preparing them for evidence-informed practice in public health. In Year 3, the focus shifts to applied and specialist areas, including public health nutrition, public health promotion and protection, the application of digital technologies in public health, nutrition in emergencies, and the psychology of sport, exercise, and nutrition. Students undertake a major research project and engage with ethical and sustainability considerations. The course equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and transferable competencies to pursue careers in public health, health policy, research, and related fields.
