COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology and Criminology BSc provides an integrated approach to understanding human behaviour and crime, combining the scientific study of psychology with critical perspectives on criminology. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in core psychological areas including cognitive, biological, social, and developmental psychology, alongside conceptual and historical perspectives that situate psychology within the natural and social sciences. Criminology is introduced as an interdisciplinary field, with modules exploring key concepts, theoretical approaches, and responses to crime, deviance, and victimisation. Students gain an understanding of the criminal justice system, developing critical thinking and research skills through study of criminological perspectives and methods. Year 2 expands on these foundations, deepening understanding of biopsychology, cognition, and social development, while exploring contemporary issues such as gender, race, youth, and globalisation in relation to crime and justice. Students continue to develop practical and research skills, preparing for professional application. In Year 3, students tailor their degree through a range of advanced options, including forensic and clinical psychology, health psychology, political psychology, media and crime, and human rights. They undertake a major project to consolidate learning and develop independent research expertise. Graduates are equipped for careers in criminal justice, psychology, counselling, research, and related fields, with a strong emphasis on ethical, cultural, and professional practice.
