COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacology and Physiology BSc is structured to provide students with a thorough understanding of human biology, the mechanisms of disease, and the actions of therapeutic drugs. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as applications of biological sciences, biochemistry, cell biology, human physiology, fundamentals of pharmacology, and the history, philosophy, and practice of science, alongside professional development skills. This year establishes core knowledge of how the human body functions and how drugs can influence biological systems. Year 2 expands on these principles, emphasizing the integration of experimental and therapeutic pharmacology with medical physiology, molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, metabolic biochemistry, and bioinformatics. Research methods are also introduced, preparing students for independent study and practical investigation. In Year 3, students advance to specialist topics, including advanced physiology and pharmacology, neuropharmacology, drug discovery, pharmaceutical drug design and development, and cancer biology. The final year also includes a major research project in life sciences and a module on global ethics, promoting scientific rigor, critical thinking, and ethical awareness. Throughout the degree, students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory experience, equipping them with the skills and expertise necessary for careers in biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and further study in medical and clinical sciences.
