COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Nutrition course at Westminster provides a comprehensive understanding of how diet and nutrients influence health, disease, and overall well-being. In the first year, students build a foundation in cell biology, human physiology, metabolism, and the principles of human nutrition, alongside modules in psychology, sociology, and professional development, establishing essential knowledge and skills for further study. The second year focuses on applied nutrition and exercise science, exploring diet in health and disease, exercise physiology, metabolic biochemistry, and research methods, while encouraging students to develop their professional identity as nutritionists. In the final year, students engage with advanced topics such as applied medical sciences, public health nutrition, applied nutrition and performance, gene editing and genomics, and nutrition in emergencies, enabling them to translate theoretical knowledge into practical solutions. A final year project allows students to undertake independent research, applying scientific principles to real-world issues in nutrition. Throughout the course, hands-on laboratory work, data analysis, and applied projects foster practical skills and critical thinking. By combining rigorous scientific study with professional development and interdisciplinary learning, the degree equips graduates with the expertise to pursue careers in nutrition, public health, sports and exercise science, research, and the wider health and food sectors.
