COURSE CURRICULUM
The Financial Economics degree offers a rigorous exploration of both economics and financial markets, preparing students to understand and analyse complex financial systems. In the first year, students gain a thorough grounding in core economic principles, covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, and global business environments, alongside an introduction to financial markets, including the stock market, foreign exchange, and basic concepts of risk and return. Mathematical skills and analytical techniques are also developed to support economic reasoning. In the second year, the course advances to more complex topics in macroeconomics, microeconomics, and managerial economics, as well as the structure and regulation of financial markets. Students gain practical skills in data analysis, forecasting, and financial modelling, applying these to real-world problems such as portfolio management, value-at-risk, and financial policy analysis. Optional modules allow exploration of contemporary issues such as digital economies, global economic trends, and climate or migration impacts. The final year focuses on advanced economic policy debates, econometric analysis, and technical forecasting techniques, equipping students to perform professional-level analyses for business and government. Students also undertake a dissertation on a chosen topic, developing research, critical thinking, and data handling skills. Graduates leave with the expertise to interpret financial data, inform economic decisions, and engage with contemporary economic and financial challenges globally.
