COURSE CURRICULUM

The Urban Planning and Design BA provides a structured progression through the study of cities, combining practical design skills with theoretical knowledge to prepare students for professional careers in urban development. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of architecture and city design, alongside contemporary issues in planning and design, and foundational design skills. This provides a solid base for understanding the historical, social, and spatial aspects of urban environments. In the second year, the program builds on this foundation, exploring architectural history and urbanism, economics of cities, and urban heritage and townscape conservation, while students develop their practical skills in City Design Studio 2. This year emphasizes understanding the economic, cultural, and historical forces shaping urban areas, linking theory with design practice. In the final year, students refine their expertise through City Design Studio 3, applying creative and analytical approaches to complex urban projects. They also undertake a research report, study resilient and healthy city planning strategies, and gain work experience through professional practice opportunities. Throughout the course, students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies needed to design sustainable, inclusive, and climate-responsive urban environments, preparing them to enter the urban planning and design industry with confidence.
