COURSE CURRICULUM

The Spanish and International Relations BA offers an interdisciplinary approach, combining Spanish language and cultural studies with in-depth exploration of politics, governance, and global affairs. In the first year, students build a foundation in international relations, global politics, democracy, and political theory, while developing Spanish language skills and engaging with cultural studies, translation, and the social life of material culture. This combination fosters both analytical and linguistic abilities, preparing students for more advanced study. In the second year, the program deepens understanding of geopolitics, global security, Middle East politics, and political theory, alongside continued Spanish language and cultural exploration. Students also engage in collaborative and research-based projects, examining the intersections between politics, culture, and communication. The final year allows students to focus on advanced topics in international relations, including ethics, foreign policy, diplomacy, postcolonial politics, energy and development in the Middle East and Central Asia, and global political order, while further refining their Spanish language and intercultural skills. Students complete a final year project or dissertation and may undertake a work placement, providing practical experience. This degree equips graduates with analytical, research, linguistic, and intercultural communication skills, preparing them for careers in international organisations, diplomacy, government, global business, and other fields requiring political insight and multilingual competence.
