COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics BA provides students with a comprehensive understanding of political systems, government structures, and the relationship between state and society across the globe. In Year 1, students build a foundation in core political concepts, exploring British politics, global governance, democracy, migration, international relations, and development studies. This year introduces analytical and critical thinking skills, helping students understand how political decisions affect societies and the international community. Year 2 deepens theoretical knowledge and critical awareness of governance, political power, and global dynamics since the Cold War. Students study geopolitics, global security, international political economy, democracy and development in Asia and Africa, Middle East politics, and research methods, while engaging in practical experiences such as internships and projects to apply their learning. In Year 3, students tailor their studies through an academic or professional pathway, completing either a dissertation or a professionally-oriented research report. Advanced topics include American power in a multi-polar world, contested sovereignty, digital politics, ethics and morality in international relations, gender politics, humanitarian intervention, climate change, and social movements. Throughout the program, students develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing them for careers in public policy, international organisations, diplomacy, research, or further study in political science, global affairs, and related fields.
