COURSE CURRICULUM

The Photography BA provides a structured pathway for students to develop both technical expertise and a distinctive creative voice across a wide range of photographic practices. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation in essential techniques, theories, and concepts, exploring areas such as constructing photographs, creativity and collaboration, documentary work, fashion photography, and immersive photographic practices. At the end of the first year, students have the option to switch between Photography and Fashion Photography pathways, allowing for flexibility based on their evolving interests. Year 2 encourages experimentation and innovation, pushing students to expand their practice into areas such as videography, CGI, camera-less photography, and alternative photographic processes. Opportunities for work placements, interdisciplinary collaboration, exhibitions, and study abroad help develop professional experience and broaden creative perspectives. Core modules support the development of an individual photographic voice while exploring publishing, networking, and collaborative practices. In Year 3, students focus on producing two major self-directed projects—a Research Project and a Major Photographic Project intended for public exhibition—supported by workshops, tutorials, and critiques. The Professional Futures module ensures graduates are prepared for careers in photography and related creative industries. Throughout the course, students gain a blend of practical, conceptual, and professional skills, equipping them for diverse career opportunities in fine art, commercial, editorial, and contemporary photographic practices.
