COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Politics, International Relations and Development is structured to provide a progressive and comprehensive learning journey over three years. The first year focuses on building a strong foundation by introducing key concepts, debates and case studies in politics and international relations. Students explore themes such as British politics, global governance, democracy, migration, and dilemmas of international development, while also gaining a grounding in political ideas and international relations theory. In the second year, the emphasis shifts to examining the global dimensions of international security and geopolitics in the post-Cold War world. Modules cover a wide range of topics including democracy and development in Asia and Africa, Middle East politics, global security, international political economy, and governance in Europe. Students are also encouraged to engage with research methods, internships, and theoretical debates that enhance their critical and analytical skills. In the third year, the focus moves towards contemporary transformations in sovereignty and global politics, particularly through discussions on human rights, humanitarian intervention, ethics, climate change, and social movements. Topics such as foreign policy, gender and politics, radical democracy, postcolonial politics, and digital politics allow for specialized study, culminating in an independent dissertation. This structure equips graduates with advanced knowledge and practical skills for global careers.
