COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in International Relations and Development is structured across three years to build a strong foundation in political and developmental studies while progressively deepening analytical and critical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to key themes in politics and development, covering subjects such as British Politics, Global Governance, International Relations, Migration, and the dilemmas surrounding international development. This foundation prepares students to engage with pressing issues in global politics and development studies. In the second year, the focus shifts to understanding the global economic system and its impact on states, territories, and regions, with modules in International Political Economy, Geopolitics, Global Security, Middle East Politics, and Democracy and Development in Asia and Africa. Students also engage in research training and have opportunities for internships, enhancing their academic learning with practical experience. The third year emphasizes regional and thematic approaches to development and politics, exploring areas such as foreign policy, humanitarian intervention, gender and politics, postcolonial politics, contested sovereignty, and the global politics of climate change. Students also undertake an independent dissertation, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a specialized area of interest. By graduation, students gain critical insights into political and developmental challenges shaping the international system.
