COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Illustration BA, students explore a wide range of techniques and conceptual approaches in image-making, developing foundational visual and critical skills. Emphasis is placed on drawing and image-making while experimenting with digital art, printmaking, animation, design, and graphic mark-making. Core modules such as Creative Industry Skills, Documentary Illustration, Drawing Exploration, Illustration Cultures, and Illustration Methods provide structured learning, while optional modules allow further exploration through 2D Computer Animation, 2D Game Art & Design, Typographic Explorations, or other electives. In the second year, students begin to shape their own creative direction, working on projects that simulate industry briefs and developing a portfolio that reflects their evolving style. They continue to refine visual and critical skills, while optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to personal interests and career aspirations, with opportunities to engage in study abroad or work placements. Core modules, including Collaborative Practice, Illustration Impact, Image-making Systems, and Visual Storytelling, support skill development, professional awareness, and creative problem-solving. Across these two years, the course balances technical training, creative exploration, and professional preparation, laying the groundwork for independent, self-directed work in the final year and equipping students with the expertise and confidence to pursue careers in illustration, animation, and related creative industries.
