COURSE CURRICULUM

The History BA at Westminster provides a comprehensive and globally focused study of the past, enabling students to explore key events, trends, and movements across different regions and periods. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in historical disciplines, studying major developments from 1789 to 1914 across Europe, North America, the Caribbean, Russia, China, and Japan. They are introduced to social, cultural, gender, and transnational history, and engage with archives and museums in London to experience history in practice while developing academic and employability skills through small-group tutorials. The second year expands on this foundation, covering the short 20th century from 1914 to 1991, including world wars, the Russian Revolution, Spanish Civil War, the Holocaust, decolonisation conflicts, and student revolutions, while students continue to enhance their research skills and take Special Subjects modules to explore focused topics in depth. In the final year, students undertake a History Dissertation on a topic of their choice, alongside an expanded Special Subjects module with a wide range of case studies such as Brexit, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, and the collapse of communism in Europe. Optional modules and work placements allow students to tailor their studies, gaining professional experience and interdisciplinary skills to prepare for careers in research, education, cultural heritage, and beyond.
