COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Development and Global Challenges BA provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding complex global issues. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge across topics such as dilemmas of international development, global order and ethics, justice and human rights, environment and sustainable development, activism, social psychology, psychology and sociology of health and well-being, science history and philosophy, and understanding race. This stage emphasizes critical thinking and analytical skills, preparing students to engage with global challenges. In the second year, the course expands into applied and specialized study, including democracy and development in Asia and Africa, global public health priorities, introduction to human rights law, law and social justice, LGBTQ studies, power and privilege in public health, self and society, urban community dynamics, and ethical challenges related to security. Students also develop data literacy through practical modules such as Working With Data and participate in experiential learning via the Global Challenges Accelerator Lab. The third year focuses on advanced and applied topics, encouraging students to develop solutions for contemporary issues through modules such as designing a sustainable world, global ethics, political psychology, immigration and borders, social change, and the cultural politics of race. Students also engage in projects that emphasize innovation, professional communication, and the global politics of climate change. The course equips graduates with the analytical, practical, and ethical skills needed for careers in international development, public policy, and global governance.
