COURSE CURRICULUM

The French and International Relations BA at Westminster offers a comprehensive program that combines advanced study of the French language and culture with a critical understanding of global politics, governance, and human rights. In the first year, students establish a foundation in international relations, exploring topics such as democracy in crisis, global politics, and critical perspectives on political systems, while developing their French language skills and cultural knowledge. The curriculum also introduces translation and intercultural communication to support students’ linguistic and professional competence. In the second year, the focus broadens to contemporary geopolitical and security issues, the politics of conflict, and the theorisation of international relations, alongside continued engagement with French culture and multilingual collaboration. Students develop analytical, research, and communication skills that allow them to examine complex global issues and understand diverse cultural and political contexts. The final year emphasises professional application and advanced research through modules on energy and development, foreign policy, diplomacy, postcolonial politics, ethics, and global governance, culminating in a final year project and optional work placement. By integrating language learning with critical study of international affairs, the program equips graduates with linguistic fluency, analytical insight, and intercultural competence, preparing them for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, global business, and other multilingual, policy-focused professional environments.
