COURSE CURRICULUM

The French and International Communication BA at Westminster provides a comprehensive education in both the French language and professional communication skills, preparing students for success in a global context. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in language and culture, exploring interpersonal and intercultural communication, translation, and the social and material dimensions of culture, while also examining the French language and world varieties of English. Year two develops deeper linguistic, cultural, and analytical skills, focusing on representations, identity, expressions of French culture, language in public spaces, and collaborative multilingual projects. Students also gain insight into Francophone studies, linking language with cultural and societal contexts. In the final year, the program emphasizes professional readiness, advanced research, and practical application, with modules including mediation in international contexts, professionalising international communication, and projects on contemporary French and Francophone themes. Students undertake a final year project and have the opportunity to engage in work placements, applying their knowledge in real-world professional environments. Throughout the degree, there is a strong emphasis on developing critical thinking, intercultural competence, and effective communication strategies. Graduates emerge with high-level French language skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to navigate international professional settings, making them well-prepared for careers in global business, media, diplomacy, and other multilingual professional environments.
