COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion Design BA at Westminster provides a comprehensive and industry-focused education across three levels, combining creative exploration with practical skills to prepare students for a career in fashion. In the first year, students are introduced to the core fundamentals of fashion design, including 2D and 3D design practice, garment construction, pattern cutting, illustration, print, CAD, and CLO 3D, alongside sustainability principles. Research and contextual understanding are fostered through activities such as London Fashion Week visits, exhibitions, sketchbooks, and life drawing, while students undertake a variety of conceptual and commercial design briefs to build a strong foundation in both creativity and technique. The second year focuses on developing skills to meet the demands of the fashion industry through projects that explore surface design, sustainable cutting and draping, and cultural identity in fashion. Students also prepare for industry experience through internships and guidance on portfolio development. In the final year, students consolidate their academic and work experience, creating a pre-collection, a runway collection, and a comprehensive portfolio to support graduate employment. Opportunities to specialise in areas of personal interest and the chance to showcase work, including participation in London Fashion Week, ensure that graduates leave the course confident, skilled, and industry-ready, with both creative and strategic design capabilities.
