COURSE CURRICULUM

This English Language and Linguistics course provides a comprehensive exploration of language, with a focus on English and its global varieties. In the first year, students build a foundational understanding of language and its structures, studying modules such as Exploring Language, Introducing English Language, Language and Text, and World Varieties of English. This initial stage emphasizes analytical skills, linguistic observation, and an appreciation of language diversity. In the second year, the focus shifts to more specialized areas, including Child Language Acquisition, History of the English Language, Language Structure, Meaning in Language, Spoken Discourse Analysis, and Language and Literary Style. Students develop deeper insights into how language functions in both social and historical contexts, while refining research and critical analysis abilities. The final year allows students to consolidate and apply their learning through a dissertation and advanced modules such as Topics in Applied Linguistics, Foreign Linguistics, Narrative, Language and Gender, Topics in Theoretical Linguistics, Language Description, and Historical Linguistics and Translation. This stage emphasizes independent research, applied analysis, and the exploration of theoretical frameworks.
