COURSE CURRICULUM

The English Language and International Communication BA offers a comprehensive study of the English language and its practical application within global and professional contexts. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in language and communication, exploring topics such as the fundamentals of English, interpersonal and intercultural communication, world varieties of English, and the social and cultural significance of language. They also develop skills in analysing texts and understanding material culture, preparing them for the practical and theoretical aspects of international communication. In the second year, the course deepens students’ knowledge with modules on child language acquisition, spoken discourse analysis, history of the English language, language and literary style, and representation and identity in visual media. This stage also broadens cultural awareness through focused studies in languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Francophone, or Hispanic studies, while enhancing skills in communication within public and professional spaces. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced topics including mediation in international contexts, professionalising international communication, applied and theoretical linguistics, and a dissertation exploring a specialist area of interest. Work placements provide practical experience, while opportunities to examine contemporary social issues, such as gender and protest, ensure graduates are prepared for careers in international business, media, education, or further postgraduate study.
