COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital Media and Journalism BA provides students with a comprehensive education in contemporary media, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills essential for careers in journalism and digital communication. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules in creating digital content, understanding digital media and society, storytelling across platforms, media research, and professional life in the creative industries. Year two deepens this foundation with core modules on media theories and working in digital media, while pathway modules focus on launching digital publications and producing multi-platform news content. Students also select option modules tailored to their interests, covering areas such as podcast and audio production, web design, human-computer interaction, 3D interactive media, and media research, providing flexibility and specialized expertise. The third year focuses on professional application and independent research through core modules in a digital media project and dissertation or practice project. Pathway modules on media law, regulation, and ethics, alongside a wide range of elective modules such as long-form journalism, documentary production, digital media work placements, and user experience design, allow students to refine their skills and develop a personal professional portfolio. Graduates emerge as highly skilled media professionals, equipped to produce and manage content across diverse platforms, understand audience engagement, and navigate the evolving media and journalism industries.
