COURSE CURRICULUM

The Creative Writing and English BA combines literary study with practical writing, allowing students to develop both creative and analytical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of literary analysis and creative practice, exploring genre, style, and form, as well as developing skills in reflective writing, textual analysis, and engagement with the English language. They also examine the interplay between literature, politics, and culture, while learning to communicate ideas effectively through various media. The second year builds on this foundation, encouraging deeper exploration of literary periods, styles, and cultural contexts, including Romanticism, Victorian literature, and screenwriting. Students continue developing creative projects alongside critical essays, learning to apply theoretical concepts to both their own work and the analysis of texts. In the final year, students undertake substantial independent projects, including an individual writing project and a literature dissertation, allowing them to synthesize creative and scholarly approaches. The curriculum also includes applied and theoretical linguistics, modernist studies, and professional development through work placements. By integrating creative practice with literary scholarship, the program equips students with strong communication, research, and critical thinking skills, preparing them for careers in writing, publishing, media, education, and other fields where creativity, analysis, and effective expression are essential.
