COURSE CURRICULUM

The Creative and Professional Writing BA provides a comprehensive exploration of writing across multiple genres, platforms, and contexts, preparing students for careers in creative, professional, and media industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Genre, Style and Form, Storytelling Across Platforms, Reflective Writing, and Writing the City, developing skills in textual analysis, communication, and creative expression. Year two deepens these skills with a focus on Forms of Writing, Screenwriting, Multiplatform Storytelling, and Working with Data, encouraging students to engage with contemporary media and digital communication while refining their practical writing abilities. In the final year, the emphasis is on professional application and individual creativity, with modules including the Individual Writing Project, Professional Writing Project, Publishing, Producing, and Curating, Social Change, and Writing Life. Students have the opportunity to undertake a work placement, providing real-world experience and insight into creative industries. Throughout the degree, learners are encouraged to critically evaluate texts, experiment with different forms and styles, and adapt their writing for diverse audiences and purposes. By combining theoretical study, practical projects, and professional engagement, this course equips graduates with a versatile skill set, a strong portfolio, and the confidence to pursue careers in writing, publishing, media, communications, and related fields.
