COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architecture BSc is a three-year, design-led program that combines creative, technical, and professional learning to prepare students for careers in architectural practice. In the first year, students develop foundational skills in architectural design, technical studies, and history and theory. Design Studio introduces core principles of scale, drawing, modelling, and digital representation, with small and larger design projects incorporating site analysis, stakeholder engagement, and material fabrication. Technical Studies cover structural and environmental principles, building components, and fabrication techniques, while History and Theory explores European and non-western architectural histories through lectures, seminars, guided walks, and building visits. In the second year, students work in one of seven design studios, responding to briefs that integrate environmental and contextual considerations and producing two architectural proposals. History and Theory seminars deepen critical skills and support dissertation topic selection, while Technical Studies include hands-on construction site observation through the Site Diary module, developing understanding of procurement, health and safety, and build processes. In the final year, students undertake more complex design projects at urban and detailed scales, culminating in a Major Project and public exhibition. Technical Studies focus on environmental audits and construction applications, while History and Theory requires a dissertation. Preparation for Professional Practice includes work placements, CV development, and portfolio creation. This integrated approach equips graduates with the creative, technical, and professional skills necessary for architectural careers.
