COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Social Work program builds on over 40 years of experience in delivering high-quality social work education, with a strong reputation for excellence in professional practice. This two-year, 200-credit master’s degree combines academic study with practical placements, enabling students to develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills required for effective social work. During the Postgraduate Diploma stage, students complete a series of core modules, including Foundations of Social Work Practice, Understanding and Learning Lessons from Service Failures, Social Work Law, and two practice-focused modules, Social Work Practice One and Social Work Practice Two. These modules provide a comprehensive understanding of social work principles, legal frameworks, and real-world challenges while preparing students for professional practice. The program emphasises critical reflection and learning from practice experiences, ensuring students are equipped to work in complex and diverse environments. Upon successful completion of the PgDip stage, students progress to the master’s dissertation, a 60-credit research or practice-based project that allows them to explore a specific area of social work in depth. This final stage enhances research, analytical, and professional skills, preparing graduates for a career in social work and enabling them to make meaningful contributions to individuals, families, and communities.
