COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Web & Mobile Development degree is structured to progressively build technical expertise and practical experience over four years. In the first year, students develop a foundation in computing and web and mobile technologies, covering digital tools, web technologies, programming fundamentals, UX-focused web design, and an introduction to networks and cyber security, establishing the knowledge needed to design and build modern digital systems. In the second year, learning becomes more applied, with modules in modern web design, interactive front-end development, databases, and application architecture, using industry-standard tools and workflows, while beginning to develop full applications. The third year advances technical skills across front-end and back-end development, working with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, contemporary frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue, and API-driven back-end applications. Students also gain hands-on experience in native Android development with Kotlin, mobile UI design, performance optimization, and server configuration for secure deployment. In the final honours year, students explore advanced full-stack and mobile development practices, including cloud computing, AWS deployment, containerisation with Docker, scalable service design, and cross-platform solutions with React Native and Progressive Web Apps. The year culminates in a major individual project presented at the Digital Futures showcase, demonstrating creativity, technical skill, and industry readiness, preparing graduates for careers in web and mobile development.
