COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Town Planning program is structured over four years to combine academic learning with practical workplace experience. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Planning and Policy, Urban Regeneration and Placemaking, Stakeholder Communication, and Town Planning Work Based Learning 1, alongside the ASPIRE 1 module focused on personal and professional development. Year two builds on this foundation with further work-based learning, alongside modules including Introduction to GIS, Sustainability and Environment, Energy and Environmental Policy, and ASPIRE 2, allowing students to apply theoretical concepts in real-world planning contexts. In the third year, students advance their practical and technical skills with Applied GIS and 3D Modelling, Green and Blue Space Design, Law, Economics & Management, Governance and Political Processes, and Town Planning Work Based Learning 3, combining analytical, design, and governance knowledge essential for effective planning. The final year focuses on strategic and applied planning, including Smart Transport and Cities, Strategic Impact Assessments, Planning, Policy and Practice, Applied Urban and Environmental Economics, and Town Planning Work Based Learning 4. This structure ensures that students progressively develop a blend of technical expertise, strategic understanding, and professional skills, preparing them to tackle contemporary urban planning challenges and contribute effectively to sustainable, vibrant, and well-managed communities.
