COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science at UWS provides a progressive, research-led program that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience to prepare students for careers in sport, exercise, and health. In Year 1, students are introduced to the foundations of sport development, coaching, and exercise science through modules such as Introduction to Sport Coaching, Academic Skills for Sport and Exercise, and Introduction to Sport Science, with learning split between scheduled classes and independent study and assessment through coursework and practical tasks. Year 2 builds on this foundation by focusing on specific areas including sport and exercise physiology, skill acquisition, and nutrition, with assessments incorporating written work, practical activities, and coursework. In Year 3, students advance their understanding of applied sport science through modules in sport psychology, research and evaluation, biomechanics, conditioning, and physiological adaptations, alongside optional modules like measurements in sport and exercise or physical activity in health. Learning in this year emphasizes a mix of scheduled sessions and independent study, with assessments distributed across written, practical, and coursework components. The final year focuses on independent research through a sport and exercise dissertation, while students can also choose optional modules such as the female athlete, exercise in extreme environments, applied sport psychology, or an international field trip. This year consolidates professional, analytical, and applied skills to ensure readiness for careers in performance, health, or research contexts.
