COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology program at UWS is structured to develop both foundational knowledge and specialised expertise in understanding human behaviour and mental processes. In the first year, students are introduced to key topics in psychology, alongside methods of investigation, laying the groundwork for scientific inquiry and critical thinking. In the second year, the focus shifts to developing practical research skills, including designing studies, analysing data, and applying statistical techniques, while exploring essential areas such as developmental, biological, social, and cognitive psychology. By the third year, students concentrate on the core domains required for British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation, including developmental psychology, social psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, and personality and individual differences. This stage emphasises critical analysis, application of theory, and integration of knowledge across multiple psychological perspectives. In the final year, students undertake a substantial research dissertation on a topic of their choice, demonstrating independent research skills and scientific rigour. Additionally, specialist optional modules allow students to deepen their understanding of applied psychology in areas aligned with their interests and career aspirations. Across all four years, the program blends theoretical learning with practical application, equipping graduates with the analytical, research, and professional skills needed for careers in psychology, research, healthcare, education, and related fields.
