COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music Technology BSc (Hons) program provides a comprehensive, four-year progression designed to equip students with the practical, technical, and creative skills required for careers in the music, audio, and media industries. In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational concepts in music recording, production, and sound design, working with professional AVID Pro Tools systems, analogue and digital consoles, and live sound setups. Modules focus on computer-based music, audio for broadcast, and sound reinforcement, alongside the ASPIRE module to develop academic, professional, and reflective skills. Year 2 builds on this foundation with advanced studio recording, electronic music composition, MIDI control, audio post-production, room acoustics, and live event sound system design, emphasizing industry-standard practices and collaborative group projects. Year 3 focuses on professional portfolio development through multi-song recordings, audio-visual content production, and applied audio signal processing, while also covering industry business, legal aspects, and opportunities for work placements domestically or internationally. In the Honours year, students undertake an extensive individual project, producing a dissertation, portfolio assets, and specialised audio work for film, animation, or interactive media. Advanced modules develop skills in mastering, immersive audio, software synthesis, generative MIDI sequencing, and non-linear audio production, preparing graduates for professional roles in music production, sound design, audio engineering, and media industries, with a portfolio demonstrating technical expertise and creative competence.
