COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Science and Sustainability BSc (Hons) program is structured over four years, gradually developing students’ knowledge, practical skills, and professional expertise. In Year 1, students are introduced to fundamental biological and chemical concepts, from molecular and cellular biology to ecological and environmental topics, alongside an understanding of the environmental scientist’s role. Core modules include life sciences, chemistry, biodiversity, and the ASPIRE module for academic, social, and professional development. Year 2 builds on this foundation with studies in environmental science and earth systems, while students can tailor their learning through optional modules in areas such as environmental health, legislative frameworks, microbiology, human impacts on the biosphere, and environmental protection. Year 3 expands the interdisciplinary nature of the program, integrating scientific, political, and social perspectives. Core modules include environmental monitoring and GIS, with optional modules covering conservation, wildlife biology, field biology, pollutants, policy, and work-related learning opportunities. In Year 4, students focus on specialised topics and develop an overarching understanding of sustainability and environmental science principles. Core modules include a Safety, Health, and Environment Honours Project, global climate change drivers, and sustainability and the circular economy. Across all years, the program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing graduates to address environmental challenges and pursue careers in sustainability, conservation, policy, and related fields.
