COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Networking BSc (Hons) program is structured over four years to build students’ knowledge and practical skills in computing and networking. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental computing concepts, including basic web authoring and the operation of computer hardware and software, providing a strong foundation for further study. The second year focuses on networking infrastructure, where students learn about key components such as routers and switches, and gain practical experience through a group project or placement. By the end of this year, students are prepared to sit the industry-recognised CCNA certification, enhancing their professional credentials. In the third year, students expand their understanding of network systems by studying Windows and Unix/Linux system administration, data security, and the overall operation of networks, while also preparing for their final-year project. The fourth year, or honours year, covers advanced networking topics such as wireless networks, virtualisation, security, and network automation. Students also complete a major project that integrates their knowledge and skills across different areas of networking. The course can also be taken part-time, offering flexibility for students. Overall, the program provides a comprehensive pathway from basic computing concepts to advanced networking expertise, preparing graduates for careers in the IT and networking industry.
