COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Care and Zoology program is structured over four years, gradually developing students’ knowledge and practical skills in biological and animal sciences. In year one, students are introduced to a broad range of biological disciplines, from cellular and molecular biology to ecological and environmental topics, while also learning about the role of animal care professionals and exploring animal-specific subjects. Year two builds on this foundation by focusing on more specialised areas such as animal nutrition, behaviour, vertebrate physiology, and elements of business creation, providing a deeper understanding of both science and industry applications. In year three, students further develop their expertise through modules in animal husbandry, practical animal care, conservation, and wildlife biology, alongside learning how to manage a business. This year also offers opportunities for work-related learning, practical training with industry partners, and participation in a residential field trip, enhancing real-world experience. In the final year, students study advanced topics including animal health, zoonotic diseases, animal welfare, legislation, and behavioural ecology. A key component is a supervised research project, allowing students to investigate a topic of personal interest. Overall, the program combines theory, practical experience, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in animal care and zoological fields.
