COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering BEng (Hons) program is structured over four years to develop a strong balance of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, students build a solid engineering foundation by studying mathematics, engineering mechanics, applied science, communication, technical drawing, computing skills, and gaining an introduction to the engineering industry. The second year expands on this knowledge with more specialised topics such as sustainable construction, civil engineering materials, structural design, mathematics for design, hydraulics, and surveying. In the third year, students focus on advanced civil engineering subjects including structural engineering, water resources, construction technology, project management, and soil mechanics. This year also emphasises teamwork and collaboration through an interdisciplinary group design project, where students work with peers from different universities. In the final honours year, students further develop their expertise by studying advanced topics such as ground and highway engineering, modern construction practices, and advanced materials. They also complete a major individual project, allowing them to explore a specific area of civil engineering in depth. Overall, the program provides a comprehensive progression from fundamental concepts to advanced applications, preparing students for professional roles in the civil engineering industry.
