COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Performance program is structured to guide students through a progressive exploration of performance, combining practical, theoretical, and research-based learning. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills and knowledge, with modules such as Reading Performance, Performance Contexts: Production Aesthetics, Practice: Text-Based, and Performance Histories, alongside the Aspire module to develop personal and professional skills. Year two builds on these foundations, encouraging creative experimentation and critical reflection through modules including Performance Contexts: Creative Processes, Theory & Performance, Practice: Devised, Culture & Society, and Cross Media Collaboration, allowing students to explore performance in broader social and cultural contexts. In the third year, students engage with advanced research and practice, studying Approaching Performance Research, Practice: Creative Festival, Applied Theatre, and Contemporary Performance in Context, while having optional modules such as Applied Theatre in Practice, Digital Performance, and Advanced Performance Practice: Testing Ideas to further specialise their learning. The final year focuses on independent creative and scholarly projects, with core modules including Creative Research Project, Performance: Dissertation, and Performance: Networks & Promotions, supporting students in developing professional portfolios and understanding industry networks. Across all four years, the program blends practical skill development, critical analysis, and professional engagement, preparing graduates to enter the creative industries as innovative, reflective, and adaptable performers.
