COURSE CURRICULUM

The Filmmaking & Screen Writing BA (Hons) program is structured over four years, combining practical filmmaking skills with critical and theoretical study. In Year 1, students are introduced to digital filmmaking and scriptwriting, gaining hands-on experience in practical roles while developing story ideas and learning to communicate them effectively. They study the aesthetics and evolution of film storytelling and explore the British film industry and cinematic landmarks. Year 2 focuses on craft development through short film production, including immersive documentary work and short fiction, alongside post-production training. Students deepen their understanding of different filmmaking traditions and genres through film studies modules and consolidate script development while building a growing portfolio of short screenplays. In Year 3, students undertake more ambitious filmmaking and scriptwriting projects, specializing in particular areas of practice and exploring contemporary cinematic themes. Options such as Work Related Learning, Writing Serial Television Drama, and Studio Production allow students to tailor their skills and enhance their employability. The Honours year is dedicated to professional development and creative autonomy, with students completing a major 60-credit project in a chosen area of filmmaking and selecting additional specialist modules, including experimental film, feature screenwriting, Asian cinema, music and sound aesthetics, motion graphics, or work-based learning. Across all years, the program combines technical proficiency, creative exploration, and industry preparation, equipping graduates to pursue careers in the creative industries.
