COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Doctorate in English Language Education and English Literature is designed to build strong academic knowledge in the first year and then focus on advanced independent research in the following years. During the first year, students study key areas such as English language teacher education, second language acquisition, and literary analysis. Core modules include English Language Teacher Education, Current Theories of Second Language Acquisition, and Building Small Worlds: The Short Story in English, along with the development of a thesis proposal that prepares students for their research journey. Students can also choose from a variety of optional modules, allowing them to explore topics like linguistics, language variation, literary research methods, and theoretical approaches to texts, as well as studies in modern and historical literature. This flexibility enables students to tailor their learning to their specific interests and career goals. In the second and third years, the program shifts entirely to independent research through a substantial research portfolio in English Language Education. With the support of academic supervisors, students conduct in-depth research and produce original work that contributes new knowledge to the fields of language education, literature, or linguistics, while developing advanced research and critical thinking skills.
