The PGCert in Automotive Engineering includes specialised modules that develop advanced knowledge of vehicle performance, engineering systems, and material reliability. One of the key modules, Advanced Vehicle Dynamic Behaviour, focuses on how vehicles respond to forces and motion, helping students understand handling, stability, suspension systems, and the factors that influence driving performance and safety. This module provides insight into how engineers design and optimise vehicle dynamics to improve control and efficiency. Another important module, Engine Performance and Emissions, explores the operation of internal combustion engines and the factors affecting their performance, fuel efficiency, and environmental impact. Students learn about engine design, combustion processes, and modern methods used to reduce harmful emissions while maintaining performance standards. The program also includes the module Mechanisms of Materials Failure, which examines how and why materials used in engineering components can fail under stress, fatigue, corrosion, or other conditions. Understanding these mechanisms helps engineers design stronger and more reliable automotive parts. Together, these modules combine theoretical knowledge with practical engineering concepts, allowing students to analyse real automotive systems and challenges.
