COURSE CURRICULUM

The MArch program in Architecture at UWTSD offers a comprehensive and structured approach to developing advanced skills in architectural design, research, and professional practice. Throughout the course, students engage with modules that build both technical expertise and critical thinking, starting with Advanced Technology and Current Issues, which provide the knowledge needed to address contemporary challenges in architecture. Architectural Design modules focus on collaborative research, brief development, and design resolution, allowing students to apply practical and creative problem-solving skills to real-world projects. The Design Thesis sequence guides students through the full cycle of independent research, design development, and final resolution, culminating in a statement of design intent that demonstrates both conceptual understanding and professional readiness. Research Methods for Architects and Understanding Architecture via Research equip students with the tools to critically investigate architectural theory, practice, and emerging trends, enhancing evidence-based design thinking. Professional Studies provides insights into the realities of the architectural profession, including ethics, regulation, and project management. By combining collaborative and independent work, theoretical study, and hands-on design practice, the program prepares students to become confident, innovative, and socially responsible architects. Graduates leave with a strong portfolio, research experience, and the skills to contribute meaningfully to the built environment while addressing societal, environmental, and technological challenges in architecture.
