COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Heritage includes a combination of compulsory and optional modules that help students develop a strong understanding of heritage studies, theory, and practice. The Heritage in the Political World: Communities and Comparative Aspects module examines how heritage is influenced by political decisions, community involvement, and global comparisons. It explores how different societies manage and interpret their heritage while considering the role of policy, identity, and public participation. Unravelling Heritage: History, Theory, Methods focuses on the key concepts and research approaches used in heritage studies, helping students understand how heritage is defined, interpreted, and preserved in different contexts. Students also complete an MA Dissertation in History and Heritage, where they conduct independent research on a heritage-related topic and apply the knowledge and research skills developed during the course. In addition to these core modules, students can choose from a range of optional modules that allow them to specialise in different areas of heritage studies. These include modules such as Welsh History and Heritage, Heritage and the Media, Skills in the Museum, Writing for Heritage, Introduction to Digital Humanities, Heritage Education, and Environmental Philosophy. Students may also gain practical experience through a Work Placement module. Together, these modules provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing graduates for careers in museums, heritage organisations, education, and cultural management.
