COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Visual Communication – Contemporary Dialogues program at Swansea College of Art is designed to develop a thorough understanding of visual communication practice while enhancing both creative and analytical thinking. Throughout the course, students engage deeply with design research, learning to apply visual language effectively in a variety of contexts. Collaborative work encourages the exchange of ideas and perspectives, while independent projects allow students to develop their own approach and explore personal design interests. Emphasis is placed on practical application, enabling students to refine their skills through hands-on projects that simulate real-world design challenges. Students will develop a professional portfolio that showcases their creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and individual design style, preparing them for careers in agencies, freelance practice, or other creative industries. Key modules such as Coexistent Perspectives, The Thought Experiment, Collaborative Dialogues, Creative Innovation, and Design Experiences build foundational knowledge and provide opportunities for experimentation and critical reflection. The program culminates in the Major Design Project, where students integrate their learning to produce a comprehensive body of work that demonstrates both conceptual understanding and technical skill. By the end of the course, graduates will have developed the expertise, confidence, and creative vision necessary to contribute meaningfully to the evolving field of visual communication and to make an impact in professional and creative contexts.
