COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Animation program is structured around a range of modules that develop both creative and professional skills required in the animation industry. Students begin by learning advanced studio workflow and techniques, which introduce industry-standard production processes and help them refine their technical abilities in animation. Modules such as Animation Alchemy and Motion focus on understanding movement, timing, and the principles that bring animated characters and environments to life. Story development is explored through modules like Imaginary Realms: Creating Story Universes and Animated World Building, where students learn to design engaging narrative worlds and visual settings for animated projects. The course also includes professional and organisational aspects of animation through modules such as Production Management and Leadership, Management and Ethics, helping students understand how animation projects are planned, managed, and delivered within a professional environment. Creative exploration continues with modules like Immersive Worlds and Research-Led Practice, encouraging students to experiment with innovative storytelling techniques and develop their own creative approach through research and practice. The program culminates in a major Master’s Project, where students produce a substantial animation project that demonstrates their technical skills, creativity, and understanding of professional workflows. This final project allows students to apply everything they have learned, helping them build a strong portfolio and prepare for careers in the animation and creative media industries.
