COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Criminal Justice and Policing includes several compulsory modules that provide a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system and modern policing challenges. The Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice module examines current debates and developments in crime control, justice policies, and the social impact of crime. Students also study The Criminal Justice System, Youth Justice and Prison Systems in England and Wales, which explores how legal institutions operate, including courts, youth justice services, and correctional facilities, and how they respond to different types of offenders. The Policing Models, Powers and Society module focuses on the structure and responsibilities of policing organisations, analysing the powers given to police and their relationship with communities. Another key module, Terrorism and Cybercrime, addresses emerging threats in modern society, examining how law enforcement agencies respond to online crime, digital security risks, and acts of terrorism. These modules encourage students to evaluate real-world policing practices and the broader social, political, and legal contexts that shape criminal justice systems. The program concludes with a Dissertation in Policing, where students undertake an independent research project on a topic related to criminal justice or policing. This project allows students to apply their research and analytical skills to explore important issues in the field while contributing to academic and professional discussions about crime and justice.
