COURSE CURRICULUM

The Doctorate in Education program is structured to develop advanced research skills and critical understanding through a combination of taught modules and a major research thesis. In the taught stage, students engage with core modules that build a strong foundation in educational research and analysis. These include Introduction to Research Methods in Education and Research Design and Management, which develop essential skills in planning and conducting research. Students also explore contemporary issues in education through two modules that focus on policy review, critical analysis, and applying research skills to contribute to knowledge and lead improvement in educational settings. In addition, the module on Writing a Critical Literature Review helps students learn how to evaluate and synthesise existing research effectively. Together, these modules strengthen academic writing, analytical thinking, and the ability to engage with complex educational challenges. Following the taught component, students progress to the research phase, where they undertake a substantial research thesis. This independent project allows them to investigate a topic relevant to their professional context, apply research methods in practice, and generate original findings. Overall, the program prepares students to become research-informed professionals who can influence policy, improve educational practice, and contribute meaningful knowledge to the field of education.
