COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology including Foundation Year BSc (Hons) degree at Swansea College of Art UWTSD is structured to gradually develop students’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in psychology. The foundation year focuses on building core academic and digital skills, adjusting to university life, and exploring how psychology relates to everyday experience. Students learn about human thinking and behaviour while developing research skills and academic confidence through modules such as Academic and Digital Skills, Psychology and You, and Researching People with Confidence. In the first year, students study the foundations of psychology, including social, developmental, biological, and cognitive psychology, alongside research methods, conceptual and historical issues, personality, and investigative psychology. The second year deepens understanding of psychological theories and processes, emphasizing quantitative and qualitative research skills and exploring specialised topics such as brain and cognition, occupational psychology, developmental psychology, and health-related neuro-scientific processes. Students can also gain practical experience through placements or internships. In the final year, students tailor their degree by choosing modules aligned with their interests, including clinical and forensic psychology, while undertaking a substantial empirical research project that applies their knowledge to real-world problems. Across all years, the program combines theoretical study, practical application, and independent research, equipping graduates with scientific literacy, critical thinking, and professional skills for diverse careers or further study in psychology.
