COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computing in Software Engineering with Foundation Year is structured over four years to provide a strong foundation and progressive development in software engineering skills. In the first year, students focus on building core computing knowledge through modules such as analysing and solving problems, introduction to computer programming, computer systems, mathematics and science, academic skills, and an integrating project. This year develops fundamental programming abilities, problem-solving skills, and confidence in using computing technologies. In the second year, students begin the main degree content, studying software development, computer architecture and operating systems, web and database concepts, network and cybersecurity essentials, mathematics, and learning in the digital era, establishing a solid technical base. The third year advances these skills with modules such as advanced software development, database application development, network operating systems and services, data security and compliance, software engineering principles and testing, and creativity and value creation, focusing on complex software systems and collaborative development. In the final year, students specialise in emerging technologies including artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud-based web services, socket programming and concurrency, and emerging trends. They also complete an independent project that applies their knowledge to real-world industry problems, preparing them for professional roles in software engineering and technology industries.
