COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Applied Computing with Foundation Year program develops students’ computing knowledge and technical skills over four years, starting with a preparatory foundation year. In the first year, students build essential academic and technical foundations by studying subjects such as problem solving, introductory computer programming, computer systems, mathematics and science, and academic skills. An integrating project helps students apply these skills in a practical context. In the second year, students begin the core computing program, learning key topics such as software development, computer architecture, operating systems, web and database concepts, networking, and cybersecurity. They also study learning in the digital era while developing teamwork and communication skills. Optional modules such as mathematics or data analysis and visualisation allow students to strengthen their analytical abilities. In the third year, students expand their practical knowledge through modules covering network operating systems and services, data security and compliance, and software engineering principles and testing. A creativity and value creation module encourages innovative thinking, while optional subjects include areas such as cloud computing, web and mobile technologies, object-oriented programming, game development, statistical programming, and computer forensics. In the final year, students complete an independent project and study emerging technologies while choosing advanced modules such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data mining, enterprise networking, and cloud services.
