COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Sport, Health and Physical Education degree provides a comprehensive program combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience to prepare students for careers in teaching and coaching youth sport. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in physical education, exercise psychology, human physiology and nutrition, and sport psychology, while gaining practical skills through modules in creative movement, aquatic activities, and outdoor learning. The focus is on building confidence in facilitating physical activity and understanding the principles of teaching and curriculum design. In the second year, the program deepens students’ expertise by exploring advanced teaching methods, coaching techniques, health and wellbeing in education, and research in sport, health, and physical education. Optional modules and international mobility opportunities allow for further skill development and exposure to different educational and sporting contexts. In the final year, students consolidate their learning by engaging in advanced teaching and coaching practice, examining contemporary issues affecting children and young people, and designing and assessing physical education curricula. A significant independent project allows students to apply research and practical knowledge to real-world challenges, while a work placement provides professional experience. By completing this program, graduates develop the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies needed to promote healthy and active lifestyles among young people and pursue careers in education, youth sport, or physical activity promotion.
