COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Criminology BSc (Hons) degree at Swansea College of Art UWTSD is structured over three years to develop a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour and crime. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in psychology and criminology, exploring conceptual and historical issues, personality and individual differences, and research methods, alongside an introduction to criminology and legal foundations. These modules equip students with essential academic and practical skills, preparing them for deeper study. In the second year, the focus shifts to advanced psychological and criminological topics, including brain, biology, and cognition, developmental psychology, social inclusion, victimisation, and welfare, as well as understanding crime, justice, and punishment. Students develop critical thinking and research skills, with opportunities to gain practical experience through psychology internships or placements. The final year emphasizes independent research and the application of knowledge to real-world contexts. Students complete an empirical psychology project and study modules addressing crime and vulnerability, gender, race, religion, and crime, as well as social issues in psychology and cognition in action. Throughout the program, students integrate psychological theory with criminological perspectives, preparing them for careers in forensic psychology, criminal justice, crime prevention, social policy, and related fields, with strong analytical, research, and applied professional skills.
